The short version
- There are no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no cookies.
- Your birth details go to our calculator to work out your chart. Then they’re gone.
- Your theme and your sign stay in your own browser.
- Nothing on the site asks for your email today.
Who is responsible for your data
Astro Parlor is a small independent site, run from the European Union.
In European data protection law we are the “controller”. That means we decide how personal data is used here, and we answer for it.
When you make a birth chart
To work out a chart, your browser sends our calculator the date, the time if you know it, the place you picked and the house system you chose. While you type a place, the letters you’ve typed are sent too, so that we can suggest towns. We don’t ask for your name.
The calculator works out the chart, sends it back and keeps nothing. Your details are not written to a disk or a database, and they are not in any log. They travel inside the request, so they don’t appear in a web address on the way to us.
We do this because you asked for it: it’s the service itself (GDPR Article 6(1)(b)).
Your chart link
After a chart is made, the address in your browser holds your birth details, after the # sign. That part of an address isn’t sent to our server or to other websites.
It does stay in your browser history and anywhere you paste the link, and anyone with the link can read those details. The link is the only copy, because we keep none. If you’re on a shared computer, remove the page from your history when you’re done. “Save as an image” is made in your own browser and isn’t sent to us.
Your network address
Every website sees the network address (IP address) of whoever visits it. Our web server’s visit log is switched off, and so is the calculator’s, so we keep no record of your visits.
The calculator does hold your address in memory for up to about an hour, to count requests, so that one address can’t flood it. It isn’t written to disk or joined to your birth details, and a restart clears it. Our reason is a legitimate interest in keeping the service working for everyone (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). You can object to this, but the calculator can’t run without it.
If the calculator crashes, the error record holds the type of error and the page it happened on, and nothing about you.
What stays in your browser
Your light or dark theme and the sign you picked are saved in your browser, not on our server. The cookies page explains this and how to clear them.
Who else is involved
Hostinger rents us the server that the site and the calculator run on. The server is in Germany, so your details stay in the European Union. Nobody else handles your details. All of the site’s files, including its fonts, come from our own server, so loading a page doesn’t contact any outside company. We don’t sell personal data, and we have none to sell.
When personal reports open
Reports aren’t open yet, so none of this is happening today. These are the rules they will follow:
- You’ll give your email address and birth details on a form that says what they’re for.
- Your email is used to send your report and to keep to our limit on free reports for one address. It’s used for nothing else: no newsletter, no offers.
- Your birth details are used to make your report.
- Both are stored encrypted and deleted 90 days after your report is sent. You can ask us to delete them sooner.
- Before reports open, this page will name every outside service that handles your details, such as the one that delivers email, and say what we must keep for tax records on paid orders.
- Reports are for people aged 18 or over.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask to see the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it or take a copy. You can also ask us to limit how we use it, or object to that use. You can complain to the data protection authority where you live or work. We offer the same to readers outside Europe.
Today we hold nothing that’s tied to you, so there’s nothing for us to look up or delete. What you’ve saved is on your own device, and you can remove it yourself.
Once reports open, one message is enough: reply to any email from us. We’ll answer within a month, and you won’t need to give a reason.
Children
This site isn’t aimed at children. We don’t ask anyone’s age, because we keep nothing, but reports will be for adults only.
If this changes
If we add something new, such as visitor statistics, we’ll say so here before it starts, and the date below will change.
