Sagittarius

What is Sagittarius like?

Sagittarius is cheerful, honest and hungry for more. They love a big idea, a long road, a good argument about the meaning of life, and a stranger with an interesting accent. Ask a Sagittarius for the short version of their trip and settle in with a snack.

There is a natural hope here. Sagittarius tends to believe that things will work out, and oddly often they do. When a plan falls apart they make a new one by morning, and they call the whole thing an adventure. They can be very good for people who have stopped expecting anything nice to happen.

They are also blunt, and it comes from a good place. A Sagittarius will tell you the haircut is a mistake, and then laugh, and then laugh at their own haircut. They mean no harm, and they would rather be honest than polite.

What are the weak spots of Sagittarius?

Tact is the first one. The arrow is not always aimed with care. A Sagittarius may say something true at a bad moment and then look puzzled at the silence that follows. "I was only being honest" has ended many a pleasant lunch.

Commitment can be another. Anything that feels like a fence makes this sign want to jump it, and that goes for jobs, plans and sometimes people. They do settle, but they need to feel they have chosen to, and that the door stays open.

They can also promise more than fits in a week. The enthusiasm is sincere. The diary, however, has only seven days in it, and friends may learn to treat "I’ll definitely be there" as a warm wish.

Who does Sagittarius get on with?

Sagittarius usually gets on best with the other fire signs, Aries and Leo, who like to go first and do not mind the volume. Libra and Aquarius are good company as well, since air keeps the talk going all night. Gemini, the opposite sign, can be an excellent match: both are curious and restless, and neither will be bored.

Earth and water signs may want more reassurance, and they can give Sagittarius something to come home to. Virgo and Pisces are fellow mutable signs, so plans with them can change a lot. As always, a sun sign is a small part of it. See the compatibility pages for a fuller view.

What is Sagittarius like at work?

Sagittarius wants meaning and room to move. Teaching, travel, publishing, law, philosophy, sport, the outdoors, and work that crosses borders all tend to suit this sign. They make inspiring speakers and very bad clock-watchers.

They need a reason to care. Give a Sagittarius a mission and they will walk through a wall for it. Give them a pile of forms and they will find a reason to go abroad. A Sagittarius manager is generous and funny and thinks big, and needs someone nearby who enjoys the details.

How does Sagittarius handle money?

Sagittarius tends to think money is for doing things. A flight comes before a sofa, every time. There can be a cheerful belief that more will turn up, and it often does, but careful budgeting is seldom a pleasure. Many of them do better with one simple rule than with a detailed plan they will abandon by Tuesday.

What does the Sagittarius symbol mean?

The symbol is the archer, a centaur with a drawn bow, half horse and half human. It is a good picture of the sign: an animal’s love of running with a thinker’s wish to aim at something far away. The glyph is simply an arrow pointing up and to the right. The centre of our galaxy lies in the direction of the constellation Sagittarius, so when you look toward it on a dark summer night, you are looking at the thickest part of the Milky Way.

Jupiter is the ruling planet of Sagittarius, the largest planet in the solar system. It is linked with growth, luck and wide horizons, which suits a sign that never packs light. Keep up with it on the Sagittarius horoscope. A free birth chart will show where Jupiter sits for you, and it may even explain the suitcase.
