Virgo is the sign that has already noticed the typo. It is an earth sign and a mutable one, which means it is practical and able to adjust, usually by fixing something you had not yet seen was broken. People with the Sun here show love by being useful.

What is Virgo like?

Virgo is careful, clever and more caring than it lets on. Where other signs say "I love you", a Virgo checks your tyres. They read the instructions, they bring a spare, and they know where the good scissors are. Life with a Virgo around runs better, and nobody quite knows why.

They have sharp minds and a very dry wit. Their remarks are short, quietly delivered and often the funniest thing said all evening. They notice small things, and that is a gift: the change in your voice, the wrong date on the form, the plant that needs water.

Contrary to the cliche, not all of them are tidy. Plenty have a messy desk and a precise idea of where everything on it is. What they share is standards, and a wish to see a job done well.

What are the weak spots of Virgo?

Self-criticism is the big one. Virgo is hardest on Virgo. They can finish a good piece of work and only see the one thing wrong with it, and they will lie awake going over a conversation from last week.

That eye for detail also points outward, and advice can land as criticism. A Virgo who says "have you thought of doing it this way?" means to help. The other person hears "you did it wrong". Sometimes the kindest thing a Virgo can do is admire the wonky shelf and say nothing.

They can also find it hard to rest. There is always one more job. Sitting still can feel like getting away with something, and a holiday may come with a list.

Who does Virgo get on with?

Virgo usually gets on best with the other earth signs, Taurus and Capricorn, who value a plan and keep their word. Cancer and Scorpio are good matches too, as water brings out the warmth Virgo keeps hidden. Pisces, the opposite sign, can be a lovely surprise: Virgo keeps the calendar, Pisces keeps the dreams, and each one thinks the other is a little bit magical.

Gemini shares a ruling planet with Virgo and can make a very chatty friend. Sagittarius may find Virgo fussy, and Virgo may find Sagittarius careless. They can both be right and still be happy. Sun signs are a small part of the story, and the compatibility pages go further.

What is Virgo like at work?

Virgo is the person who makes the whole thing function. Editing, research, nursing, accounting, data, crafts, teaching, and any kind of skilled service tend to suit this sign. They like to be good at something real, and they are at their happiest when given a mess and left alone with it.

They do not enjoy showing off, so their work can go unnoticed. A wise manager thanks them in specific terms: "that spreadsheet saved us a week" means far more to a Virgo than "great job, team". Virgos often rise slowly and end up being the one person nobody can do without.

How does Virgo handle money?

Virgo tends to know what things cost and to spot a bad deal from across the street. Budgets come naturally, and so does comparing three versions of a kettle for an afternoon. They spend carefully and well, and they often have a small hidden fund for good tools, good food, or looking after someone else.

What does the Virgo symbol mean?

The symbol is the maiden, often shown holding a sheaf of wheat. It comes from the old harvest goddesses, such as Demeter in Greece, so the sign has always been tied to gathering in what you have worked for. The glyph is an M with a closed loop. The constellation Virgo is one of the largest in the sky, and its brightest star, Spica, is named after the ear of wheat in her hand.

Mercury is the ruling planet of Virgo, the same planet as Gemini, but here it thinks more than it talks. When Mercury is retrograde, Virgo tends to check everything twice, which is to say as usual. Keep up on the Virgo horoscope, and see your own Mercury, and the rest of your planets, on a free birth chart.

Where is the Sun now?

The Sun is at 07°04′ Scorpio. It next enters Virgo on August 23, 2027, then on August 22, 2028. These are UTC dates, and they shift by about a day from year to year, so if you were born near the edge of a sign, a birth chart will settle it.
