Today’s sky
- Waning gibbous, 76% lit. It stays in Cancer until .
- Mercury and Mars: square, within 0°19′. A square is a 90° angle between two planets, a tense one. This is the closest one on this date.
- Five planets look like they’re moving backward: Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. It’s a trick of how we see them from Earth, and it happens every year.
Check our math
Every number for on this date, which is 12:00 UTC. An R means the planet looks like it is moving backward.

The positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source library. Tropical, geocentric, apparent, true equinox and ecliptic of date. We compared it with NASA’s JPL Horizons data on 39 charts from 1879 to 2026, and the biggest difference was 18.3 arcseconds, about 1/200 of a degree.
Try it: in Horizons, pick the Sun, put the observer at Earth’s center, set 2026-10-30 12:00 UT and read the apparent ecliptic longitude. You should get 217.08°. Scorpio starts at 210°, so that is 07°04′ Scorpio.
