Today’s sky

  • Waning gibbous, 76% lit. It stays in Cancer until .
  • Mercury and Mars: square, within 0°19′. A square is a 90° angle between two planets, a tense one. This is the closest one on this date.
  • Five planets look like they’re moving backward: Mercury, Venus, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. It’s a trick of how we see them from Earth, and it happens every year.

Aspects are set angles between planets. The number is how close each one is to exact.

  • Mercury square Mars0°19′
  • Neptune sextile Pluto0°59′
  • Sun trine Moon1°04′
  • Uranus trine Pluto1°36′
  • Uranus sextile Neptune2°36′
  • Venus sextile Jupiter2°52′

The positions come from Astronomy Engine, an open-source library. Tropical, geocentric, apparent, true equinox and ecliptic of date. We compared it with NASA’s JPL Horizons data on 39 charts from 1879 to 2026, and the biggest difference was 18.3 arcseconds, about 1/200 of a degree.

Try it: in Horizons, pick the Sun, put the observer at Earth’s center, set 2026-10-30 12:00 UT and read the apparent ecliptic longitude. You should get 217.08°. Scorpio starts at 210°, so that is 07°04′ Scorpio.
